Qualifications

  1. Valid teacher’s license with appropriate endorsements.
  2. Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  3. Basic understanding of and skill with computer technology for personal and presentation applications.
  4. Meets health and physical requirements.

 

Primary Responsibility

To provide services and specialized learning experiences to students with disabilities in a supportive and positive classroom climate that develops the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the Core Curriculum Standards.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Confer with parents, administrators, assessment personnel and other professionals to develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social development.
  2. Coordinate the educational program and comprehensive related services as outlined in the IEP.
  3. Teaches/instructs students for the purpose of ensuring successful progress toward meeting goals/objectives on the IEP, as well as successful progress toward meeting Alternate Performance Indicators or Common Core Standards.
  4. Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities as required by the district, state, and federal regulations.
  5. Communicate regularly with regular education teachers when a child is mainstreamed.
  6. Communicate regularly with parents to nurture a supportive and cooperative relationship between home and school.
  7. Establish the schedule, role, responsibilities, and expectations for the paraprofessional(s) assigned to assist the teacher.
  8. Align lesson plans and Individual Education Plans to Alternate Performance Indicators or Common Core Standards.
  9. Administer a variety of assessments to gauge progress toward academic success.
  10. Continue to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth opportunities.
  11. Participate in school level faculty meetings, system professional development and in-service meetings.
  12. Assists in upholding board policies, school rules, and administrative regulations.
  13. Protect confidentiality of records and information for students with disabilities.
  14. Report to proper authorities and principal when knowledgeable or suspicious that a child’s health or welfare has been or appears to be at risk as a result of abuse or neglect.
  15. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
