Job Description

 

Employees in this classification assist students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom at the middle school level. Activities associated with the job include working with students with disabilities in small groups to provide basic reading, math, science instruction, self-help skills (which may also include toileting, feeding), pre-vocational skills, and transitional skills in regards to employment.  Incumbents must be capable of providing effective instruction, be willing to assist students in basic self-care and maintain a high level of energy while interacting with students.  Job performance is typically evaluated by teachers and administrators through observation of interactions with students, ability to impart knowledge and skills to students, and personal organizational skills.
